Known in English as “I’ll Be Alright”, “Juste Avant Toi” is one of two new songs to be included on the album (the other being “Garde-Moi”). And for an Anggun song the music video starts off pretty normal. She’s at a concert, she leaves, she’s driven home, she sees a billboard of herself. Then she heads onto the street and starts singing.

Then the characteristic surrealism kicks in. While she’s on the street in one outfit she’s also suddenly in a forest, by a stream, in a completely different outfit. The scene flips back and forth between city and forest, and then suddenly the two Angguns meet and swap places. The forest Anggun looks rather overwhelmed by the city while the city Anggun looks perfectly happy in the forest. Needless to say they never swap back, and forest Anggun gets used to giving performances.

It’s different, that’s for sure. But worth a watch.

If “Snow on the Sahara” is any indication, she sure can. Her first Englishd and French release, “Snow on the Sahara” is both the album name and the name of her first non-Indonesian single. Released in 1997, the album is lauded as one of the greatest CDs ever released by Anggun’s fans, and has a fairly wide range of songs to tempt your dramatic palate.

The song itself has a rather nice video, too, albeit one that’s a bit strange (not a big change for Anggun, that); it’s mainly her dancing slowly in a room colored in muted blues while singing. The song fits the atmosphere perfectly, and it’s a definite must-listen for those of you looking to wind down after a long day.

Anggun Etre Une Femme, and the accompanying music video (released in 2005, for all you date seekers), doesn’t disappoint on that score. It would help to have a working knowledge of French handy when trying to figure out what’s going on in this video, though given what the video centers on – Anggun’s body – that probably doesn’t matter much. It’s essentially a series of shots of Anggun – among a few other women, most of whom are fairly young – dancing around in a bunch of different outfits while weird, artistic sequences play in the background.

It’s a nice enough pop song; just don’t expect a ‘deep’ experience. It relies mainly on swaying hips.

Set to a series of screen clips taken from British actor (and former diver) Jason Statham’s upcoming movie Crank 2, the video features three things: the aforementioned video clips, shots of Anggun herself dancing around seductively in some sort of loose and flowing dress, and further shots of Anggun and her backup band singing away madly (she’s in jeans for these shots, by the way).

Those parts aren’t bizarre. What’s bizarre is that the video is set in what looks like an underground parking lot – and yet it seems to be raining. That doesn’t quite jive. More, at once point, Anggun gains a pair of metallic fingers that emit fire from the tips.

Well, given how strange the movie sounds – Statham has had his mechanical heart stolen – it’s a fitting enough video.
